Monthly Art Collaboration: Painting a face on given background

Welcome back to another exciting episode on our monthly art collaboration between Marie from Sweden and Eleni from Greece and myself from Switzerland! If you’re new here, let me fill you in on our creative journey. Last year, we exchanged postcard-sized painted backgrounds, and now we’re adding a personal touch each month by sketching and painting faces on these unique backgrounds.

This month’s artistic adventure began with a clever workaround to deal with the darker background from Eleni. I opted for white charcoal for the initial sketch, a smart choice considering graphite wouldn’t have shown up against those deeper hues. This adaptation allowed me to outline and define features without compromising the integrity of my chosen background from Eleni.

Following the sketch, I delved into the world of acrylic paint, layering colors to bring our characters to life. Acrylics offered the versatility needed to create vibrant tones and textures, making the face inspired by Chagals “The acrobat” distinctive and expressive.

To add finer details and subtle nuances, I turned to coloured pencils. This medium provided precision and depth, enhancing facial features and adding intricate touches to the face. The combination of acrylic paint and colored pencils proved to be a good choice for the outcome of this painting.

As we continue this monthly event, we invite you to join us in exploring the endless possibilities of art. Stay tuned for more updates on our collaborative process and the evolving faces that grace our painted postcards.

Until next time,
Bea Grob
