Watch me Painting a Mixed Media Face⎪Step by Step Tutorial

Welcome back to another Art Journal Page. This time I did work in the large Moleskine Water color Journal. It is in the impressive size of 42 x 30 cm or 16,5 x 12 inches. At least for me impressive bit, I tend to work in smaller journals. What about you, do you work in large journals or small journal? Let me know in the comments.

I have this journal mainly for studies for future painting on canvases. And no they don’t end up always as actual painting and that is fine too. I rather have them in an art journal and not on the canvas if they don’t work out as I have imagined.

Now this I have planned to use it as a starting point for a canvas painting, I will keep you posted and probably gonna film the canvas too. So stay tuned. Back to the journal page. Now for the inspiration for this face, well it is purely drawn from my imagination. I don’t do real portraits. Rather I want to capture an idea more than a certain person.

I did start with collaging some printed tissue papers and then also added stamping. In case you wonder what stamp I have used (it is of course my own stamp set) you can find it in my shop, where you also can find my stencils just head over here.

Next I did work with modelling paste. Once it was dry I did apply a thin layer of Gesso before I started with acrylic paints. Before I could start with sketching the face everything had to be dry, I use a heat tool to dry it quicker.

I did sketch in the face with a standard graphite pencil and then added my paints. Find out more about the whole process in the video.

Once I was happy with the face I went over again with my stencils to add more details. I hope you enjoy watching my process.
