And Just Like That…
Some pages arrive with a plan. Sketches, a colour palette chosen in advance, a clear vision.
And then there are pages like this one.
This spread started with colour — warm mustard yellow, soft violet, a blush pink wash — applied without much thought. Just the brush moving, the water spreading, the page absorbing. And slowly, layer by layer, something began to emerge.

The texture beneath
Before any colour went down, I laid vintage newspaper across the page. It disappears almost completely under the washes — but you can still feel it. See it, if you look closely. That’s the thing about hidden layers: they change everything, even when no one else can see them.
Lace, tulle, and a wax seal
These are the elements that turn a painted page into a story. A piece of golden tulle, gathered softly at the top. And a wax seal — pressed to keep it down.

The lily
My flowers always find their way onto the page. This one — a lily or tulip, painted and cut out — sits right at the centre of the composition, quietly holding everything together. Pink with deeper marks, outlined in white. Simple. Honest.
And Just Like That…
The typography came last. A snippet, cut from a magazine: And Just Like That… I had been carrying it around for weeks, not knowing where it belonged. And then I placed it on this page, and it was exactly right.
That’s the golden thread in Art Journaling — the way things find their place when you stop forcing them.
