Art Journal Moodboard #4 — A Yellow Collage Page with Stamps & Stencils

Every month, Marie from Mixed Creativity by Marie and I take turns sharing a moodboard in our Facebook group, Bea’s Mixed Media and More — a visual prompt to inspire the members to create. This month it was my turn, and I chose a theme that is about as far from Swiss grey as it gets: yellow.

Open art journal spread with a yellow-themed mixed media collage page featuring stamps, stencils, a vintage chair illustration, golden frog, yellow rose, butterfly and platform shoe, with the word YELL-OW spelled out in letter tiles

Moodboard #4 is all about that warm, buzzing, sunshine energy. And of course, as always, I made my own art journal page to go with it.

Stamps, Stencils & a Stash Dive

For the background, I reached for some of my own stamp and stencil designs — the bubble dot pattern and the layered textures that give the page its rhythm. Then I opened my collage stash and let yellow lead the way: a blue-grey vintage chair with a mustard velvet seat (the contrast!), a golden tree frog mid-leap, a yellow platform shoe, a bold rose outlined in black, a little butterfly, and Scrabble-style letter tiles spelling out the word of the moment.

The Word Play: YELL-OW

The word YELLOW is arranged vertically in two parts — YEL and LOW — and that split is very much intentional. There is something that wants to shout in this colour. And something quieter underneath it. That tension felt right for an art journal page.

Play Along!

Members of Bea’s Mixed Media and More are always welcome to create inspired by any moodboard in the group — not just the current one. Share a card, a tag, a painting, an art journal page, or even your own video. Just make sure it’s clearly inspired by the moodboard and share it in the group so we can all celebrate your work!
