In my newest painting, “Blue Hydrangea,” I invite you into a floral daydream of summer gardens and gentle blues. I can’t grow blue hydrangeas in my Swiss garden. However, their lush blooms made a lasting impression on me during my travels in America. Near white cottages, their color truly pops.

This 80 x 80 cm canvas started with a bold neon yellow base. Then, I added expressive marks with a Stabilo All pencil. I built up the background using acrylics in greens, titan buff, and a touch of blue. After that, I layered various hues of blue, violet, and white to create the hydrangea blossoms. Toward the end, I added delicate leaves using one of my handmade stencils and Neo Pastels. The painting, like most of my work, evolved in many layers over time.
