In the Rosefields – A Dreamy Mixed Media Painting

In this video, I paint a romantic scene. It is inspired by rose fields. This is the kind you might wander through in a dream. Starting with soft reds in the background, I layer textures and shapes that capture the gentle beauty of blooming roses.

Along the way, I share my process and techniques, including a few surprises and happy accidents. Whether you’re here to learn, or just to enjoy the journey, I hope this piece brings a moment of calm. May it also bring inspiration to your day.

And here a little closeup

🖌️ Behind the Scenes
Here’s a glimpse into my studio setup while working on Rosefields. On the table, you can see the wide range of materials I used. These materials include bright acrylic paints in various reds and greens. I also use my trusty Neocolors (not showing the Neopastels, which I have used too) and favourite brushes. I like to have everything laid out and visible while I work. This way, the process stays spontaneous and full of possibility.

🌀 About the Process
When I started this piece, I wasn’t entirely sure what kind of flowers I was painting. I just followed the flow of color and shape. As the layers built up, they naturally evolved into something resembling roses. That’s what I love about intuitive painting. I start with a loose idea. The image then reveals itself along the way.
