Gelli Print – A Creative Afternoon of Printmaking

Gelli printing is one of my favorite ways to experiment with color, texture, and layers. In this session, I dedicated an entire afternoon to playing with found objects. I used acrylic paint and masks. I created prints with multiple pulls and stunning textures.

My Process:

  1. Backgrounds with Found Objects – I started by layering textures using random found objects. These included anything with interesting patterns—think bubble wrap, netting, or even leaves!
  2. Building Up Layers – By pulling multiple prints, I created complex backgrounds with depth and contrast.
  3. Adding the Focal Point – I used plastic masks and a solid color to make a strong, clear shape.
  4. Final Touches – Some prints received extra definition with watersoluble colored pencils, adding an expressive outline.

Which print is your favorite? Have you tried Gelli printing with found objects before? Let me know in the comments!
