Reach for the Stars – Easy Mixed Media Art Journal Page from Trash to Treasure

Sometimes the best art happens when we don’t plan it. This Reach for the Stars page was created in my Trash to Treasure Journal, made mostly from a recycled fashion catalog with a few added papers and envelopes.

A spontaneous mixed media art journal page using recycled paper, acrylic paint, and Posca pen. Learn how Bea Grob transformed a simple catalog page into a colorful galaxy — no brush needed!

I didn’t start with a concept — I just felt like playing with colors. Using acrylic paints and a cosmetic sponge, I built the background with blues, purples, reds, and yellows. Then I added white stars and lettering using a Posca pen, and a few dark accents with a Sharpie.

The whole process was fast, intuitive, and freeing — a reminder that art doesn’t always have to be elaborate. Sometimes, just following the color flow leads to a small piece of joy.

Materials used:

  • Acrylic paints (various colors)
  • White Posca pen
  • Black Sharpie
