This week, Design Team Member Jamie has brought the magic of the sea to life. Her enchanting mermaid notepad project is whimsical and functional. It sparkles with personality and texture!

For this project, I wanted to use the cut apart mermaid bits. So, I printed on cardstock in a toner save mode. I roughly cut the parts out, and using glue stick I glued the pieces onto one of the background papers. Then after a few minutes of drying time, I fussy cut them out. I had a scrap card stock die cut on my desk that I added to the front note pad cover.

I layered an additional piece of cardstock on the backside of the head for reinforcement. I took bits of colored cheese cloth. I glued them and a few pieces of embroidery floss on the back of the head. Once my first layers were dry’ish I added additional bits of cheese cloth. Love how wispy this looks and the fun texture it gives the piece. I then fussy cut out a star fish as a top layer to the back of her head.

Using a double sided neutral background, I traced out the body and cut out the note pad pages. You will want to cut away the pencil line, so the pages fit inside the shape. You may need to trim bits as you go. Otherwise, you might like the look of the pages being slightly out of line. After all there is no die cut to get them precise.
I wanted the tail pieces to swish back and forth. So, I attached one tail to the front cover and one to the back cover with tiny brads. I further decorated them with flat back gems. I like to call the gems diamonds. I was careful not to glue the tails in place. I covered the back of the brads with little pieces of the background paper. I added some doodle lines with a gelly roll star dust pen. However, you really can’t see it in the video or photos. I think sometimes its these tiny details that can really add interest to a piece. I stacked the back cover, pages, and front cover. Then I stapled the layers together at the neck. I glued on her head and added another small piece of the scrap die cut. This disguised where the neck joins the cover, and the staples. I’m very happy with this project. It would work well in a journal. It would also serve as a cute note pad on the refrigerator. And how cute would it have been if I had used the fish stamps on the pages!
