In this round of the #3girlsand12faces collaboration, I had the pleasure of working on a beautiful background created by Marie. The vibrant colors and texture inspired me to take a slightly different approach this time.
I began by applying a light wash of gesso. It was just enough to tone down the brightness of the background. This still let the colours peek through. Then, I sketched a face directly onto the surface. I chose not to fully paint the face. Instead, I added a subtle touch. I focused mainly on the facial features like the eyes, nose and mouth.

What makes this piece unique is the embroidery. I used various colors of embroidery floss to outline the face and hair. The stitching added an extra dimension. It makes the artwork pop and gives it a tactile quality. This quality is different from my usual mixed media style.
I love how this piece turned out, and I hope you enjoy it too! Feel free to leave a comment and let me know your thoughts.
