This month, I had the pleasure of collaborating with the talented Lena on a special art journaling project. Together, we dove into our creative processes and brought unique ideas to life. For my part of the collaboration, I decided to create a page that reflects some fond memories I have from a trip to Phoenix with a dear friend. The result is a vibrant and nostalgic art journal page that I’m excited to share with you.
Starting with the Background
To kick things off, I began by creating a colorful background using water-soluble wax crayons. These crayons are fantastic for adding rich, blendable color to any page. I love how easy it is to create smooth gradients and transitions with them. After laying down the color, I used some of my stamps (available here) to add texture and interest to the background. Stamping adds that extra layer of depth, which helps to bring the page to life.
Adding Collage Elements
Next, I moved on to the collage portion of the page. Collaging is one of my favorite techniques because it allows you to combine different elements and create something entirely new. For this page, I used bits and pieces from magazines and old cards. These fragments add a touch of nostalgia and help to build the overall theme of the page. Each piece I selected had a special meaning, connecting back to my memories of Phoenix.

The Focal Image: A Drive-In Theatre
The focal point of the page is an image of a Drive-In Theatre. This image instantly took me back to the time I spent in Phoenix with my good friend. We visited cinemas and theaters together, and this picture perfectly captures that experience. It’s a reminder of those fun nights and the joy of sharing time with someone special.
Final Thoughts
Collaborating with Lena on this project has been a wonderful experience, and I’m so happy with how this journal page turned out. It’s a blend of colors, textures, and memories that come together to tell a story. I hope you find inspiration in this project and feel encouraged to explore your own memories in your art journaling practice.
