Introduction
Welcome to another exciting installement of our monthly art collaboration series, #3girlsand12faces! This artistic journey brings together Marie from Sweden, Eleni from Greece, and myself to create unique whimsical faces. Each of us has crafted a background for one another, adding a layer of surprise and creativity to our work. In this post, I’ll take you through my process and inspiration for this collaboration.
The Inspiration: Gustav Klimt and Adele Bloch-Bauer
For this month I have taken Gustav Klimt’s renowned “Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer., a prominent Austrian symbolist painter, is known for his elaborate and gilded artworks as inspiration. “The Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer” is one of his most famous pieces, celebrated for its intricate detail and luxurious depiction of Adele’s dress. The combination of rich patterns, gold leaf, and delicate portraiture makes this painting a masterpiece of the Art Nouveau period. For this collaboration, I was particularly intrigued by the opulence of Adele’s dress and sought to incorporate some of the details into my postcard-sized portrait.

My Process: Reimagining Adele Bloch-Bauer
- Conceptualization: Inspired by Klimt’s attention to detail, I began by sketching a tiny portrait of Adele. My goal was to translate the grandeur of the original painting into a smaller, post card sized format.
- Background Integration: The background provided by Marie was rich with texture and color, reminiscent of Klimt’s signature style. I carefully integrated my portrait with this background, ensuring that the patterns and colors complemented rather than overwhelmed the tiny figure.
- Detailing the Dress: The most challenging and rewarding part of this project was recreating the intricate details of Adele’s dress. Using a fine marker, I added the patterns, to mimic the luxurious fabric Klimt depicted in his painting.
Conclusion: Celebrating Artistic Collaboration
Participating in the #3girlsand12faces collaboration has been an enriching experience, allowing me to explore different styles and techniques while celebrating the timeless influence of the old masters. Reimagining Gustav Klimt’s “Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer” was a rewarding challenge, pushing me to experiment. I encourage you to check out Marie and Eleni’s interpretations as well, each bringing their unique perspective to this month’s theme.
